My story

Hi, I’m Jessica - the watercolor artist behind Jessica McCain Studio.

I create whimsical, nature-inspired paintings filled with quiet moments, tiny creatures, wildflowers, glowing skies, and a little bit of magic. At the heart of my work is a love for storytelling and a belief that even the smallest things can carry enormous meaning.

My path to becoming an artist wasn’t a traditional one.

In 2024, my son Isaiah was born with a severe congenital heart defect. His first year of life unfolded almost entirely within the walls of a hospital as he fought through surgeries, extraordinary challenges, and a long wait for a donor heart. Eventually, he received the gift we had hoped and prayed for: a heart transplant.

That experience changed the way I see the world.

During some of the hardest and most uncertain days of our lives, I found myself noticing small pockets of beauty more deeply - light coming through a window, flowers growing somewhere unexpected, the comfort of being held, and the hope that can exist even when you don't know what tomorrow will bring.

Painting became a place for me to hold all of that.

Today, much of my work is inspired by motherhood, Isaiah’s journey, and the themes that became so important to our family: hope, courage, tenderness, protection, light, and love. Sometimes those stories appear directly in a painting. Other times, they become a tiny mouse beneath a glowing sky, a meadow filled with wildflowers, or a little creature setting off toward somewhere unknown.

I want my paintings to feel like small worlds you can step into - gentle, hopeful places that remind you there is still wonder to be found.

Every original, print, and card from Jessica McCain Studio begins with my own artwork and is created with care from my home studio in Virginia. It means more than I can say that something born from such a transformative chapter of my life can now find its way into your homes, celebrations, and stories.
